Skaak
Skaak is 'n bordspel vir twee spelers, wat gespeel word op 'n vierkantige bord wat verdeel is in agt rye en agt kolomme, maw 64 individuele blokkies wat tradisioneel lig en donker gekleur is. Elke speler het 16 stukke, wat bestaan uit agt pionne, twee torings, twee lopers, twee ruiters, een dame en een koning. Elke stuk skuif op sy eie manier. Die twee kante word onderskei deur kontrasterende kleure. Die doel van die spel is om die koning van die opponent in skaakmat te plaas.
Die woord 'skaak' kom van die Persiese woord 'sjah', wat koning beteken. Ook die woord 'mat' is Persies en beteken 'dood'.
