Most chess, big chess, Go & poker holdem tournaments are rated, you will find unrated chess tournaments like thematic tournaments, chess 960 and tournaments played without chess engines (Rybka, Fritz, Shredder, Hiarcs) in the chess special tournaments category. Blitz, lightning or bullet games (freestyle cups as well) are played in real time, other ones are played at correspondence time controls (e.g. for chess: rapid 30 days + 1 day / move or standard 40 days + 40 days / 10 moves).
The world championship tournaments are played at rapid time control to have at least 1 new cycle starting every year, giving more chances to all players. It is strongly recommended not to play more than 2 or 3 rapid tournaments at the same time as it may quickly become time consuming when playing at the highest level.
All these chess, big chess, Go (weiqi, baduk) & poker holdem tournaments (but specified "silver", "gold", "platin") are completely free of charges, some may have prizes though. There is no money games involving chance at FICGS, but there is a quite efficient ELO rating system for Poker texas holdem, just like for chess & Go.
