Spam still makes money

Traffic from Google is an extremely valuable commodity and many webmasters will stop at nothing to secure top rankings for lucrative keywords. Google would like site owners to naturally link to other sites they find useful and relevant but some sites use methods discouraged by Google to artificially inflate the number of links pointing to the site in order to boost its positions.

This battle has been going on for years, with many sites continually inventing methods to improve their rankings for particular keywords and search engines repeatedly updating their algorithms to protect the quality of searches. A few years ago, oceanfinance.co.uk and moneyexpert.com had acquired millions of links to their site, enjoying long term success in manipulating Google’s results.

At this time moneyexpert.com no more sits atop of Google for highly rewarding keywords such as mortgages, loans and credit cards. But its number of backlinks according to Google link: function is still about 185,000

The Digital Point Coop network was launched in 2005 by Shawn Hogan from DP (Digital Point), it quickly expanded with thousands of sites.

In this network, advertisers create text or image ads that are placed across the thousands of sites in the network, publishers are given some php code that they embed on every page on their site. As the adverts are showed in rotation, the links may not appear more than once, but enough for search engines to see them.

Publishers are given "weight" that depends on how many pages the ads are displayed on and the PageRank of these pages. Thus, sites with strong PageRank and tens of thousands of indexed pages offer a huge amount of weight that the publisher can use to advertise any number of sites across the network.

The trick is that it is possible to run the adverts on a spam site, then use the weight to point links at a clean site to boost its rankings.

During 2006 it became obvious that hosting these adverts was a bad idea as some sites suffered ranking penalties because of the network and lost their PageRank. Also having several footer links to sites out of control is probably not a good way to build your brand.

People now buy high PageRank sites with thousands of pages just to gain more "weight" for their Coop networks or even rent "weight" to other people (probably like ZTMC).

Sites using DP coop network links to build rankings still dominate a lot of the most lucrative industries. Google started to crack down on link selling and other manipulative schemes, so the Coop (which follow the same idea than Text Link Ads or TNX) has been getting smaller, but the system still counts thousands of sites - some eventually cheat the system - and most probably a few making millions every year from this free network.

Le spam sur internet est toujours rentable, le traffic en provenance de Google vaut de l'or et certains webmasters continuent de déjouer les algorithmes du géant pour placer leurs sites au sommet des classements des recherches sur les moteurs (SERP).

La bataille dure depuis le succès fulgurant de Google, les règles étant faites pour être détournées. Certains sites comme moneyexpert.com, qui compte toujours plus de 185.000 liens, ont rapidement profité de l'aubaine en acquérant des millions de liens, profitant de la création de certains réseaux d'échanges de liens.

Le réseau Digital Point Coop a été lancé en 2005 par Shawn Hogan de DP (Digital Point) et s'est rapidement étendu à plusieurs milliers de sites. Dans ce réseau, les publicitaires créent un simple lien texte ou une image qu'ils placent dans les sites du réseau qui n'ont qu'à insérer un code PHP dans leurs pages. Les sites affichant ces liens ont un "poids" dépendant du nombre de pages affichant ces liens et du PageRank de ces pages. Des sites ayant un poids fort peuvent donc afficher des liens dans de nombreux sites. L'astuce est qu'il est possible d'afficher ces liens dans un site de spam et diriger le poids résultant vers des sites propres.

En 2006, il est devenu évident que publier ces liens était dangereux pour le classement d'un site, certains ayant subi de forts déclassements, voire perdu leur PageRank. Afficher des liens hors de contrôle est de toutes façons forcément dangereux.

Depuis, des webmasters achètent des sites ayant un fort PageRank et des milliers de pages pour acquérir du "poids" dans le réseau Coop, voire louent du poids à d'autres sites (probablement comme ZTMC).

Les sites utilisant le réseau DP coop pour construire leurs liens dominent encore beaucoup de secteurs lucratifs. Google a commencé à réduire l'impact de la vente des liens et de ces réseaux d'échange, et le réseau Coop (qui suit le même principe que Text Link Ads ou TNX) a perdu en taille, mais compte toujours des milliers de sites - dont certains étant parvenus à berner le système - et probablement quelques uns gagnant des millions chaque année grâce à ce réseau à la base gratuit.

Robert De Niro, Catherine Deneuve, Dennis Hopper and many other stars were at the ending ceremony of this 61st Cannes festival 2008.

The palmes also went to "Il divo" de Paolo Sorrentino, "Changeling" de Clint Eastwood, "Three Monkeys" de Nuri Bilge Ceylan, "Che" de Steven Soderbergh.

Et la Palme d'Or revient à... un film français, "Entre les murs" de Laurent Cantet, transposition à l’écran du roman du même nom de François Bégaudeau. Laurent Cantet avait réalisé "Ressources humaines".

La palme d'or a été remise par Robert De Niro, accompagné pour la cérémonie de clôture de ce 61ème festival de Cannes 2008 entre autres de Catherine Deneuve, Dennis Hopper et bien d'autres.

Le jury présidé par Sean Penn a remis le palmarès (Palme d'or, Grand Prix, Prix du jury, Prix du meilleur scénario, Prix du meilleur acteur, de la meilleure actrice etc...) récompensant notamment "Entre les murs" de Laurent Cantet, "Il divo" de Paolo Sorrentino, "Changeling" de Clint Eastwood, "Trois singes" de Nuri Bilge Ceylan, "Che" de Steven Soderbergh.

Cannes Festival 2008

The 61st Cannes Film Festival (2008 May 14 to 25) will present films by Clint Eastwood & Steven Soderbergh in the main competition. The official selection was unveiled by festival president Gilles Jacob and delegate general Thierry Frémeaux.

Of the 20 directors competing for the 2008 Palme d’Or, eight (only) of them are making their official competition debut. Clint Eastwood will be represented by "Changeling", a mystery set in the 1920s in Los Angeles starring Angelina Jolie. Steven Soderbergh will present "Che", a four-hour film about the Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara.

Other films in the competition will come from Belgium, Turkey, France, Argentina, Brazil and Italy. Steven Spielberg’s "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and Woody Allen’s "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" will be shown out of competition. The opening and closing films are yet to be announced.

La rumeur qui courait depuis quelques semaines a enfin été confirmée, le très attendu Indiana Jones 4 sera présenté en grande première au Festival de Cannes 2008 le 18 mai, quatre jours avant sa sortie mondiale (le 22 mai). Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett et George Lucas (qui produit le film) monteront les marches du Palais des festivals pour présenter hors compétition Indiana Jones et le royaume du crâne de cristal.

Cette projection spéciale du nouveau blockbuster de Spielberg sera sans nul doute l'événement de ce 61ème Festival de Cannes, qui se déroulera du 14 au 25 mai. Thierry Frémaux (délégué général) et Gilles Jacob (président) ont dévoilé une liste quasi-complète de la sélection mais manquent encore à l’affiche un film français (une chance de plus pour décrocher la première palme française depuis 1987 et "Sous le soleil de Satan" de Pialat) et les films d’ouverture et de clôture.

Parmi les 1792 films visionnés (contre 1615 en 2007), les sélectionneurs en ont retenu 19. Parmi eux, les frères Dardenne ("Le Silence de Lorna"), Arnaud Desplechin et un "Conte de Noël", Steven Soderbergh ("Che"), le nouveau Clint Eastwood ("Changeling"), le Turc Nuri Bilge Ceylan ("Trois singes"), le Canadien Atom Egoyan ("Adoration"), Jia Zhangke ("24 City"), Wim Wenders ("The Palermo Shooting"), la première fiction du scénariste Charlie Kaufman ("Synecdoche, New York"), la première apparition en compétition de Philippe Garrel ("La Frontière de l’aube") et l’opus israélien d'Ari Folman ("Waltz with Bashir"), "un film d’animation documentaire" dixit Thierry Frémeaux.

Hors compétition, le nouvel "Indiana Jones" sera présenté en exclusivité quelques jours avant sa sortie mondiale. Egalement le nouveau Woody Allen ("Vicky Cristina Barcelona"), avec Penélope Cruz et Scarlett Johansson qui sort au passage son premier album en France.

La curiosité de ce festival devrait être le documentaire du journaliste Daniel Leconte consacré aux démêlés de "Charlie Hebdo" et de ses caricaturistes avec les intégristes de tous bords, au titre prometteur "C’est dur d’être aimé par des cons".

Concernant le jury, on savait déjà que le Président du Jury de ce Festival de Cannes 2008 serait l'acteur-réalisateur américain Sean Penn. Il sera accompagné par le metteur en scène mexicain Alfonso Cuarón, l'américaine Natalie Portman, l'acteur-réalisateur italien Sergio Castellito, le cinéaste français d'origine algérienne Rachid Bouchareb, l'actrice allemande Alexandra Maria Lara et le metteur en scène thaïlandais Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Deux autres noms des membres du jury seront dévoilés plus tard.

Nicolas Sarkozy marries Carla Bruni

It was announced on radio by the mayor of the eighth district of Paris, Francois Lebel, who officiated at the wedding : Nicolas Sarkozy married italian ex-super-model becomed singer Carla Bruni. The marriage was later confirmed by the president's office in a short statement saying french president Sarkozy and Carla Bruni "announce that they were married this morning in the presence of their families in the strictest privacy." This is Sarkozy's third marriage, he and Cecilia Ciganer-Albeniz, divorced 4 months earlier. Bernadette Chirac, the wife of former president Jacques Chirac on RTL radio said "I extend all my warmest wishes for happiness to the newlyweds. She is very beautiful and I know that they are very happy together". Carla Bruni has been romantically linked to several famous men before, including rock stars Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton or Donald Trump. She has a six-year-old son, Aurelien, from her relationship with philosopher Raphael Enthoven.

Finalement annoncé à la radio par le maire du 8ème arrondissement de Paris, François Lebel, qui a présidé le mariage, Nicolas Sarkozy a épousé l'ex-top-model italien devenue chanteuse (Quelqu'un m'a dit) Carla Bruni. Le mariage a ensuite été confirmé par l'Elysée dans un court communiqué disant que le président français et Carla Bruni annonçaient s'être mariés en présence de leurs familles dans la plus stricte intimité. C'est donc le 3ème mariage de Nicolas Sarkozy, après son divorce d'avec Cécilia Ciganer-Albeniz en octobre dernier. Bernadette Chirac, ex-première dame de France a exprimé ses voeux de bonheur au nouveau couple présidentiel. Carla Bruni a été la compagne auparavant de célébrités telles Mick Jagger des Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton ou Donald Trump. Elle a un fils de 6 ans, Aurélien, issu de sa relation d'avec le philosophe Raphael Enthoven.

Star Academy in danger

It seems that TV series from the United States (ie. The video's appearance comes as the Andrew Morton's book about the Hollywood star, the author of a controversial biography of Diana, Princess of Wales, alleges that the actor ranks second in command in the Church of Scientology. The church called Morton's book, Tom Cruise An Unauthorised Biography, "a bigoted, defamatory assault replete with lies" in a 15-page statement.

Britney's divorce, child custody battle and other problems appear to have taken a greater toll on her than most people expected. Ca alors, j'ai manqué ça... Noémie a été sortie de la Star ac', pourquoi suis-je donc surpris ? Un sondage (près de 18.000 votants) donne "Bien fait pour elle, c'est une peste" à près de 50%, et "C'est qui Noémie ?" à 40%, reste peu de place pour les commentaires positifs :)

A lire les news, l'ambiance semble être un peu morose au chateau, selon Raphie les élèves oublieraient de faire preuve de modestie. Et gros suspense, l'une semble faire mine de partir, puis non, puis peut-être... Bref, du grand reality show !
