What to do against illegal downloads ?
Has the internet become the symbol of "freedom" by becoming the world of illegal copy ? Surely not, it is a question of money only like everywhere else. When laws in several countries are to be created to fight against the P2P (Peer To Peer), it only helps the online storage services to become more and more powerful. Many users are now addicted to downloads on Megaupload, Rapidshare, Hotfiles and the hundreds (!) of other services like these ones, ranked among the most visited websites in the world.
The cost of these services is not so high, about $60 a year, and you can download at very high speed any film (from the latest Harry Potter to the films by Alfred Hitchcock), any music (from the 9th symphony of Beethoven to the latest disc by Madonna), any software, many ebooks as well.
It is said sometimes that actually piracy does not hurt the disc sellers or at least the artists, but surely it does and it will change the way they work very soon if nothing is done.
Are Megaupload & Rapidshare legal ? No they aren't, or they are intelligent enough to play with laws, but Youtube shouldn't be legal as well, so in a way they just followed the example of the king Google !
On Youtube any user can upload any video and it is viewable by anyone in the world, and "sometimes", someone says : No this file is protected by author rights, please remove it ! This is just the same on Megaupload or Rapidshare, but surely they just move the file to another place, anyway it is available again one day or a few minutes after.
To invoke the difference between streaming and downloads is a nonsense as every file available in streaming can be downloaded already.
There may be an international law that can hurt immediately every website (eg. by cancelling its domain name, that is possible) that publishes illegal content, but yes in this case any forum may be the victim of a bad intentioned user.
That would be the price, every content should be verified before to be posted. But at least we could start by websites that post illegal videos or music.
Well, that's not the real world, actually I doubt it will work this way ever, so the world will continue the same way, it belonged to the mafia, now it will belong to the internet "ruffians".

Megaupload et Rapidshare sont-ils légaux ? Non, certainement pas, mais ils sont suffisamment malins pour jouer avec les lois, mais dans ce cas Youtube ne devrait pas être légal non plus, les services de stockage en ligne n'ont fait en réalité que suivre le modèle proposé par le roi Google.
Sur Youtube, n'importe qui peut uploader n'importe quelle vidéo, puis "éventuellement" quelqu'un peut venir dire : Non, cette vidéo est protégée par des droits d'auteur, merci de bien vouloir la retirer ! C'est exactement le même principe sur Megaupload et Rapidshare, d'ailleurs il est probable qu'ils ne font alors que déplacer le fichier incriminé. Dans tous les cas, il sera sous doute disponible le lendemain voire quelques minutes après.
Invoquer la différence du streaming et du téléchargement est une notion déjà obsolète, tout fichier streamé est désormais téléchargeable ou copiable.
Il pourrait bien y avoir une loi internationale qui toucherait n'importe quel site web là où ça fait mal (par exemple en annulant son nom de domaine) si l'on venait à constater la publication de matériel illégal. Mais dans ce cas n'importe quel forum pourrait se voir fermer à cause de la mauvaise utilisation de l'un de ses membres.
Ce serait là le prix à payer, tout contenu devrait véritablement être vérifié avant d'être publié. Mais avant d'attaquer les forums, au moins on pourrait commencer par sauver les films et la musique.
C'est une idée utopiste sans doute, et une telle loi ne verra sans doute jamais le jour, alors le monde continuera tel qu'il est, il appartenait à la mafia, désormais il appartient aux "voyous de l'internet".

Why Bing ?
This is a quite strange question at a first sight but the name of the new search engine by Microsoft is really weird, "Bing" after "MSN search", "Live" and "Kumo".
Microsoft should spend more than 80 million dollars to promote the new search engine in the United States according to AdAge, but the name is really awful in my humble opinion.
The idea is obviously to make this new search engine different from Google by presenting more multimedia content instead of text only. It has been noticed very quickly that the search engines could become easily a porn site just by searching the word "sex" in the videos category because of the presence of sites looking like Youporn in the results. You just have to change a security option.
Now we will see if the famous company created by Bill Gates is ready to be a serious concurrent for Google that still dominates the search engines market.

MySpace est toujours le plus populaire des réseaux sociaux, avec près de 253 millions de comptes. Très pratique pour retrouver des connaissances perdues de vue, il offre égalemet un blog dont le succès en a fait la cible des spammeurs soucieux d'atteindre un large public.
Facebook, avec 140 millions de comptes actifs pour beaucoup, est le réseau social dont la croissance est la plus rapide. Son nom de domaine est sans doute pour beaucoup dans son succès, mais il est également le seul à proposer une API qui permet à des développeurs tiers de créer des applications utilisables dans le site, un véritable plus par rapport à tous ses concurrents.
Hi5 Networks est un autre réseau social qui compte près de 80 millions d'utilisateurs, aidant à garder le contact avec ses amis et sa famille. Il fournit également aux artistes une plateforme qui leur permet d'atteindre une audience large aisément.
Orkut est un réseau social appartenant et dirigé par Google, comptant déjà près de 67 millions d'utilisateurs. Il permet aux gens de trouver d'autres personnes partageant les mêmes centres d'intérêt, de créer des communautés à la manière de forums ou encore à trouver l'amour, des relations d'amitié ou des relations d'affaires.

A new Google PageRank export started. Many webmasters saw a fall of their website's PageRank and identify duplicate content and the connection between the number of outcoming links and the number of incoming links as the main cause. This should be a serious attack towards spammy sites and directories that simply copy text from other websites automatically. Maybe the Google directory (copy of Dmoz) will be penalized too.

Spam still makes money
Traffic from Google is an extremely valuable commodity and many webmasters will stop at nothing to secure top rankings for lucrative keywords. Google would like site owners to naturally link to other sites they find useful and relevant but some sites use methods discouraged by Google to artificially inflate the number of links pointing to the site in order to boost its positions.
This battle has been going on for years, with many sites continually inventing methods to improve their rankings for particular keywords and search engines repeatedly updating their algorithms to protect the quality of searches. A few years ago, oceanfinance.co.uk and moneyexpert.com had acquired millions of links to their site, enjoying long term success in manipulating Google’s results.
At this time moneyexpert.com no more sits atop of Google for highly rewarding keywords such as mortgages, loans and credit cards. But its number of backlinks according to Google link: function is still about 185,000
The Digital Point Coop network was launched in 2005 by Shawn Hogan from DP (Digital Point), it quickly expanded with thousands of sites.
In this network, advertisers create text or image ads that are placed across the thousands of sites in the network, publishers are given some php code that they embed on every page on their site. As the adverts are showed in rotation, the links may not appear more than once, but enough for search engines to see them.
Publishers are given "weight" that depends on how many pages the ads are displayed on and the PageRank of these pages. Thus, sites with strong PageRank and tens of thousands of indexed pages offer a huge amount of weight that the publisher can use to advertise any number of sites across the network.
The trick is that it is possible to run the adverts on a spam site, then use the weight to point links at a clean site to boost its rankings.
During 2006 it became obvious that hosting these adverts was a bad idea as some sites suffered ranking penalties because of the network and lost their PageRank. Also having several footer links to sites out of control is probably not a good way to build your brand.
People now buy high PageRank sites with thousands of pages just to gain more "weight" for their Coop networks or even rent "weight" to other people (probably like ZTMC).
Sites using DP coop network links to build rankings still dominate a lot of the most lucrative industries. Google started to crack down on link selling and other manipulative schemes, so the Coop (which follow the same idea than Text Link Ads or TNX) has been getting smaller, but the system still counts thousands of sites - some eventually cheat the system - and most probably a few making millions every year from this free network.

En 2006, il est devenu évident que publier ces liens était dangereux pour le classement d'un site, certains ayant subi de forts déclassements, voire perdu leur PageRank. Afficher des liens hors de contrôle est de toutes façons forcément dangereux.
Depuis, des webmasters achètent des sites ayant un fort PageRank et des milliers de pages pour acquérir du "poids" dans le réseau Coop, voire louent du poids à d'autres sites (probablement comme ZTMC).
Les sites utilisant le réseau DP coop pour construire leurs liens dominent encore beaucoup de secteurs lucratifs. Google a commencé à réduire l'impact de la vente des liens et de ces réseaux d'échange, et le réseau Coop (qui suit le même principe que Text Link Ads ou TNX) a perdu en taille, mais compte toujours des milliers de sites - dont certains étant parvenus à berner le système - et probablement quelques uns gagnant des millions chaque année grâce à ce réseau à la base gratuit.

Knol, diminutive for "Knowledge", is a new service tested by Google that could become a competitor for Wikipedia on various topics. Google, firstly a search engine, now wants to create content. Articles are said to become "the first thing someone who searches for this topic for the first time will want to read." (Quite clear)

Magic, but how much time yet ?

A le lire partout, il semble simple aujourd'hui de gagner de l'argent sur internet, faites le buzz avec un site web d'une page, typiquement un blog, annoncez partout que vous gagnez 100.000 euros ou dollars par mois (disons 1.000 si l'audience est européenne :)) grâce à votre site qui ne fait que répéter que (et non comment) vous réalisez ce miracle. Ensuite, si vous êtes un escroc, vous pouvez également vendre un ebook "virtuel" ou réduit au minimum expliquant tant bien que mal vos méthodes miracle, pour une poignée d'euros. Le web et les publicités Adsense regorgent de ces offres toutes plus alléchantes les unes que les autres, "Comment être classé numéro 1 dans Google en 2 semaines", "Comment augmenter son PageRank en deux jours", "Comment obtenir 1 million de liens gratuitement", "Comment obtenir 10,000 Diggs en un jour", "Comment soumettre son site à 10 millions d'annuaires"... Magique, mais pour combien de temps encore ?

The end of PageRank
It seems that Google has real problems to deal with websites that buy text links from other websites (ie. Text Links Ads, TNX). The best sign of this may be the PageRank drop warning last month, as they probably can't manage to do it with SERP. But the more I read forums, the more it's obvious that noone cares about PageRank anymore as soon as the income increases. Here are some comments from Matt Cutts blog. Many things will happen for sure during the next months... Time to sell some GOOG stock ?

Il semble que Google fait face à de réelles difficultés face au problème des liens hypertexte achetés (par exemple via Text Links Ads ou TNX). Pour preuve sans doute l'avertissement aux webmasters en octobre dernier avec la chute violente du PageRank pour de nombreux sites, faute de pouvoir corriger les résultats dans les recherches, sans doute. Mais à la lecture des forums spécialisés sur le référencement, il est de plus en plus évident que les webmasters ne tiennent plus vraiment compte du PageRank tant qu'ils voient leurs revenus grimper. Quelques commentaires à lire sur le blog de Matt Cutts. Les prochains mois vont être agités... Le moment de vendre quelques actions Google ?

Links are exchanged, traded, buyed, sold... Will massive links exchanges systems like TLA (Text Links Ads) & TNX.net kill Google ?
Of course, as these links exchanges platforms mostly depend on the success of Google, they could suicide themselves while killing the Google PageRank or SERP calculation, a tough battle just started, any favourite ?

Les liens hypertexte sont échangés, achetés, vendus par millions... Les systèmes d'échanges massifs de liens comme Text Links Ads et TNX finiront-ils par tuer Google ?
Bien sûr, ces plate-formes d'échanges de liens dépendent en grande partie du succès de Google, ils pourraient donc bien se suicider en décribilisant le calcul du fameux PageRank et des classements de positionnement dans les pages de recherche de Google, une grande bataille vient donc de démarrer, les paris sont ouverts !

TNX ou la dépendance totale
Bon, après quelques heures de sommeil, j'en suis venu à me dire...
1) Que leur truc est quand même bien foutu, et clairement profitable pour eux (ça n'étonnera personne).. toute l'astuce, également de donner des points, étant de forcer les webmasters à payer ensuite à vie chaque mois pour garder leurs précieux liens.. au prix fixé par TNX.. bon ça restera sans doute peu cher par lien, le cumul fera vite banco pour eux si ça marche, mais c'est une vraie dépendance.. si le système craque, c'est la gamelle dans les Google SERP.
2) Pour le code, je n'ai pas encore vu ce que ça donne en HTML, mais la ruse (je m'en doutais un peu) consiste à aller chercher ni vu ni connu avec un code PHP ou Perl les pubs à insérer à coup de file_get_content() ! .. donc en théorie ça peut vraiment être indétectable....... mais ça va bien ralentir un peu les pages.
Il faut reconnaitre que ça a l'air vraiment intéressant "si bien utilisé"... Je reste perplexe.

Visiblement le buzz du moment autour de l'optimisation des moteurs de recherche s'appelle TNX - ht*p://www.tnx.net/?p=119583153 , nouvelle plate forme d'échanges de liens apparemment ULTRA efficace, avec l'idée de simuler un référencement naturel à grande échelle et avec un minimum d'efforts... TLA (Text Links Ads) n'aurait qu'à bien se tenir, d'autant qu'ici on peut vendre, acheter, échanger, bref tout faire avec un seul outil, contrairement par exemple à Adsense/Adwords !?
En bref, leur vision de l'optimisation des liens et les raisons d'utiliser leur outil se résument à ceci :
1. Ne pas vendre, ni acheter des liens sur tout un site (sitewide link), faire des échanges d'une seule page.
2. Ne pas chercher des liens à fort PR uniquement, monter progressivement en puissance selon le PR de votre site.
3. Limiter le nombre de liens externe de vos pages (entre 1 et 4), et éviter tout thème douteux (pills, viagra etc...).
4. Contrôler la vitesse de construction des liens (et éviter la sandbox, évidemment)
5. Promouvoir les pages profondes, utiliser des titres différents etc... la routine...
6. Eviter les échanges de liens réciproques. (sûrement discutable dans une certaine mesure)
En résumé leur argument : les liens de pages individuelles même à faible PageRank sont très bénéfiques pour les SERP, pas forcément pour le PageRank (dont tout le monde se fout désormais semble-t-il)
Leur système semble très bien pensé pour exploiter au maximum la puissance d'un site (c'est clairement là le secret), et très profitable pour tout le monde ! Ils offrent encore 5000 points (soit des milliers de liens PR0 dans la thématique de vos sites) sur le forum Digital Point et tout le monde se jette dessus... Je ne vois pas encore où est "le défaut", sinon le danger de la sandbox qui semble pourtant être pris en compte.
Alors révolution et TNX nouvel ennemi public No 1 pour Google ? .. Ils prétendent que les liens resteront indétectables (notamment après l'attaque en règle contre Text Links Ads)...
Je me demande au passage comment ça marche technologiquement parlant, ça doit bien au moins ralentir la vitesse de chargement des pages (auquel cas Google pourrait ruser)... Je vais peut être essayer juste pour voir à quoi ça ressemble.. Mais évidemment le plus gros risque pourrait être tout simplement qu'ils soient assez rapidement victimes de leur succès... Google pourrait aussi rendre les liens PR0 sans effet, mais les conséquences seront lourdes.
Le nombre de liens vers tnx.net est déjà supérieur à 1000 pour un PR0 .. apparemment leur positionnement sur leurs requêtes clés (genre "text link ads" a sans doute été sabordé), mais certains chiffres semblent ne pas mentir... Je reste sceptique, mais intrigué !

Google would be in talks with Simon Fuller, the man behind the Spice Girls, about a joint venture that could change the way television is watched over the internet.
Of course Google's plans for the TV market may include generating original content and competing with major broadcasters, why not, just after the launch last year of Google Video, which offers full-length television programmes and films on a pay-per-view basis.

Google PageRank goes after paid links
The last update of famous Google's PageRank seems to go after sponsored links, a common way to obtain optimized backlinks on the internet to change Google rankings. Many famous websites like ie. Youtube saw its PageRank falling by several points, but no change would have occured in rankings, finally Youtube got back its PageRank.
Definitely, Pagerank is a perfect tool for Google to control the world wide web.

La dernière mise à jour du célèbre PageRank de Google semble aller à l'encontre des liens payés ou sponsorisés, un moyen devenu classique d'obtenir des liens optimisés sur internet pour influencer les résultats des recherches sur Google. De nombreux sites célèbres comme Youtube ou Webrankinfo ont vu leur PageRank chuter de plusieurs points mais apparemment sans avoir affecté leur positionnement dans les pages de recherche. Peu de temps après, Youtube avait récupéré son PageRank.
