Thibault de Vassal
Congrats... that was a really impressive & tough game!

Huayong Yang
Thanks for watching! :-)

Brittany Smith
Yes I agree... very tough game! Congrats on your win! :)

Xiao Tong
35 should F6. 60 should f10. 79, 91 bad moves.

Thibault de Vassal
Hi Xiao, how do you refute move 79 ?? Sure it looks strange at a first sight (at my poor level) but finally I found it interesting...

Xiao Tong
79 and 81 together take one move. The value do not deserve one move. 79 or 81 move at g14 will be better. If 79 move at (r5,q5;s7,r4),then black can get a free hand move at f14.

Xiao Tong
f14 a mistake, should g14.

Xiao Tong
view the whole rather than the part.

Svante Carl von Erichsen
Thanks for the comments, Xiao! I regretted 35 very much afterwards. At the end, I was for some reason totally oblivious to the value of G14.

Here are the names of the openings (joseki) played in the four corners :

Corner d16 : d17 d15

Komoku (Somok, Xiao~mu`) 3-4 Point.
The komoku (3-4) point is the traditional corner enclosure move..

Ikken Takagakari (Hankan Nop'dakeolch'im, Yi Gaogua`jiao~, 1-Space High Approach).
The 5-4 approach move has become more popular in modern times, as modern Go emphasizes speed and influence.

Corner q16 : q16 r14

Hoshi (Hwajeom, Seongjeom, Xingwei`) 4-4 Point.
The star or hoshi (4-4) point, emphasizing influence at the potential expense of territory.

Ikken Kakari (Hankan Keolch'im, Yi Gua`jiao~, 1-Space Low Approach).
White 2 is the standard approach move to the 4-4.

Corner q4 : q4 o3

Hoshi (Hwajeom, Seongjeom, Xingwei`) 4-4 Point.
The star or hoshi (4-4) point, emphasizing influence at the potential expense of territory.

Ikken Kakari (Hankan Keolch'im, Yi Gua`jiao~, 1-Space Low Approach).
Black 2 is the standard approach move to the 4-4.

Corner d4 : d4 f3

Hoshi (Hwajeom, Seongjeom, Xingwei`) 4-4 Point.
The star or hoshi (4-4) point, emphasizing influence at the potential expense of territory.

Ikken Kakari (Hankan Keolch'im, Yi Gua`jiao~, 1-Space Low Approach).
White 2 is the standard approach move to the 4-4.

Player White won this Go (weiqi, baduk) game.

Go is essentially a form of harmony. Go in the 21st century will have to be go of the 'harmony of the six points - the four quarters, the above and the below.' As in life we will need to view the whole rather than the part. Japanese go has focused too heavily on the local (joseki) rather than the whole for 300 years. The reason the Chinese and Koreans are overtaking the Japanese is that they are closer to achieve this whole-board view. (Go Seigen, 9p, 1994)

Hold em is to stud what chess is to checkers. (Johnny Moss)
