Palme d'Or
And the Palme d'Or goes to... a french movie, "Entre les murs" directed by Laurent Cantet (Ressources humaines).
Robert De Niro, Catherine Deneuve, Dennis Hopper and many other stars were at the ending ceremony of this 61st Cannes festival 2008.
The palmes also went to "Il divo" de Paolo Sorrentino, "Changeling" de Clint Eastwood, "Three Monkeys" de Nuri Bilge Ceylan, "Che" de Steven Soderbergh.

Et la Palme d'Or revient à... un film français, "Entre les murs" de Laurent Cantet, transposition à l’écran du roman du même nom de François Bégaudeau. Laurent Cantet avait réalisé "Ressources humaines".
La palme d'or a été remise par Robert De Niro, accompagné pour la cérémonie de clôture de ce 61ème festival de Cannes 2008 entre autres de Catherine Deneuve, Dennis Hopper et bien d'autres.

18 566 923 spectators after 7 weeks, almost 1 million this last week (as much as past week), where it will stop... The movie from Dany Boon "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" is now in good place to reach the 20 000 000 barrier in France and maybe to beat the James Cameron's Titanic.

"Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" may become the most seen movie in french theaters, ahead of "La Grande Vadrouille" or even "Titanic". This very funny film by Dany Boon still attract millions of spectators after 4 weeks.

Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis et son détonant tandem Dany Boon - Kad Merad est désormais en passe, avec plus de 15.300.000 spectateurs en 4 semaines (plus de 2 millions cette dernière semaine), de battre le record d'entrées dans les cinémas français de la Grande Vadrouille (et de son immortel duo de Funès - Bourvil) avec 17 millions d'entrées. Il peut même espérer flirter avec le record absolu détenu par le Titanic de James Cameron (Leonardo Di Caprio - Kate Winslet) avec 20 millions d'entrées. Le film de Dany Boon, qui met le nord de la France à l'honneur, est devenu un vrai phénomène, drôle, léger, émouvant, tout le monde semble y retourner avec plaisir. Let's hope this new rumour is just ridiculous and untrue : According to "Le nouvel observateur", Nicolas Sarkozy would have sent a strange SMS to Cécilia ex-Sarkozy about 8 days only before to marry Carla Bruni : "Si tu reviens, j'annule tout" (if you come back, I cancel everything).. It wouldn't be so surprising but anyway, no answer. The rings story, the same places where Nicolas Sarkozy & Carla Bruni went after Cécilia Sarkozy and Richard Attias - rumours say they could marry next month - no doubt that other rumours will go this way. Hate and love, obsessions.. One thing only is sure, a movie won't be enough to tell that story.

According to Adams Media Research, about 32 million DVD players were sold in the U.S. last year. Of those, about 4%, or 1.5 million, were hi-def optical disc players: 578,000 Blu-ray Disc players and 370,000 HD-DVD players. Blu-ray has taken a decisive lead over HD DVD, the main movie studios, such as Warner Bros, Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox & MGM joined Blu-ray. HD-DVD players have more options, such as onboard flash memory and Internet connectivity, they are cheaper than Blu-ray players but the game seems already over. Anyway, many advise to buy any of these players at the moment, tomorrow may be yesterday already.

Bien, pas trop mauvais évidemment, mais si vous avez vu "Infernal affairs", le film asiatique original avec les triades chinoises en toile de fond, que j'ai eu la chance de voir au festival de Deauville, le film de Scorsese paraît tout à coup plutôt ennuyeux, en tout cas bien loin de Casino...

Beowulf, The mist, American Gangster, Hitman, Enchanted, Bee Movie, Heroes, This Christmas, Rescue Dawn, August Rush... Yes, cinema (this "old man dying" as said Alain Delon) is not completely dead yet. At least there will always be money to recycle in the name of art. Will the 3-D cinema give a last breath to the "7ème art " ? .. Any recommendation ?

Oui, le cinéma (ce "vieux monsieur en train de mourir" comme disait Alain Delon) n'est pas encore complètement mort. Au moins il y aura toujours de l'argent à blanchir au nom de l'art. Hollywood sue Chinese internet site
Jeboo.com and an Internet cafe in Shanghai have been sued by five Hollywood studios (Twentieth Century Fox, Walt Disney, Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures and Universal Studios) for a $432,000 compensation. They would have offered Pirates of the Caribbean, X-Men 2, Night at the Museum and other well known recent movies to download for free. Good luck to them ! (Hollywood studios of course, they will need it :))

X-Files the movie 2
Twentieth Century Fox announced X-Files sequel will finally get out on July 25, 2008. Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are in again.
"All Chris says is that he wants to make a really scary horror, like a stand-alone episode", Gillian Anderson told Britain's Empire magazine last year regarding the upcoming movie. "I don't think they’re interested in touching on any of the conspiracy stuff."
As the show wrapped up in 2002 after a nine-year run, it left numerous fans disappointed while the story was left unfinished. Gillian Anderson said in the interview that the movie sequel’s function isn’t to appease the hardcore fans.

"Tout ce que dit Chris, c'est qu'il veut faire un vrai film d'horreur, comme un épisode isolé", selon Gillian Anderson pour Britain's Empire magazine, à propos du film à venir. "Je ne pense pas qu'ils soient intéressés par tout ce qui touche à la conspiration."
La série s'était arrêtée en 2002 après 9 années de bons et loyaux services, laissant de nombreux fans désappointés par l'histoire inachevée. Gillian Anderson raconte dans l'interview que le sequel du film n'aurait pas pour fonction d'apaiser les fans accrocs.
