Comment by Gino Figlio :

Elementary theory of the sicilian says, if black survives the middle game fireworks, he has usually the better endgame. Well, I wonder what black is thinking here with the backward d6 pawn... I can see the bad intentions of 14.Rd1, but is there enough compensation for black, in the queenside maneuver?
Well, after the final move 29...Nc2+ white is lost; for example: 30.Ke2 Qb3 31.Nx8 Rxa8 32.e5(only move, otherwise the b2 pawn falls and the black a-pawn has an easy way to promotion)Rc8 33.Rd2 dxe5 and white's position falls into pieces.
The option 30.Kd2 is similar, other moves like 30.Kf1 allow knight fork tricks on e3.
White indeed gave up the game by opening his position with his king poorly defended in the middle of his weak territory.
