Alek Wek
The sudanese model Alek Wek (born 16 April 1977) is from the Dinka ethnic group in the Sudan. In 1991 she and a part of her family fled to Britain to escape the civil war between the Muslim north and the Christian south of the Sudan. Then she moved to the United States of America. She appeared in 1995 on the catwalks at the age of 18, sparking a career lasting to date. She appeared in the music video for "GoldenEye" by Tina Turner and "Got 'Til It's Gone" music video by Janet Jackson before to be named "Model of the Year" in 1997 by MTV. She also designs a range of designer handbags named "Wek 1933".
Le mannequin soudanaise Alek Wek (née le 16 avril 1977) est du group éthnique Dinka du Soudan. En 1991, elle fuit en Grande Bretagne la guerre civile qui fait rage au Soudan avec une partie de sa famille. Elle part ensuite s'installer aux Etats Unis. Elle est apparue dans le vidéo clip de "GoldenEye" par Tina Turner puis dans le vidéo clip "Got 'Til It's Gone" par Janet Jackson avant d'être désignée comme mannequin de l'année par MTV en 1997.
