Hot news & buzzDiscussing the latest news and buzz...Back to hot news moderator (2009-03-25 19:15:29) Michel Cymès in House M.D. These last days, a rumor invaded french forums, Michel Cymès, a french tv animator on France 5 would have played a french doctor in the famous tv series House M.D. with Hugh Laurie. Actually it was a hoax, but what a hoax, actually a parody to promote a website around medecine. Very well done
This month, an enormous buzz has been created around Facebook's terms of use, each day we see a new group inside Facebook around this topic, but is there any reason for this ? Like any other successful creation, Facebook has to face jealousy & imitations but this may be the way internet goes only : A few weblogs will always find a "Da Vinci Code"-like way to reveal a new 'scandal'. Facebook is the perfect victim, it most probably has lawyers who write as perfect as possible terms & conditions of use but it firstly has to protect itself when the principle of the website creates obvious problems by its content, mainly made of personal content. The Facebook's terms of use : You hereby grant Facebook an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense) to (a) use, copy, publish, stream, store, retain, publicly perform or display, transmit, scan, reformat, modify, edit, frame, translate, excerpt, adapt, create derivative works and distribute (through multiple tiers), any User Content you (i) Post on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof subject only to your privacy settings or (ii) enable a user to Post, including by offering a Share Link on your website and (b) to use your name, likeness and image for any purpose, including commercial or advertising, each of (a) and (b) on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof. Only one line deleted was enough to create the buzz : You may remove your User Content from the Site at any time. If you choose to remove your User Content, the license granted above will automatically expire, however you acknowledge that the Company may retain archived copies of your User Content. Such titles then appeared in well known websites & newspapers and Facebook had to react quickly : "Do you belong to Facebook, forever?" [Chicago Tribune] "Facebook: "We have never claimed ownership" of members' content" [The Standard] Quite funny after all, just one more viral hoax... Do you really think that Facebook would suicide by using any bad way your personal informations ? As for me I don't think so. Of course Facebook has to make money, it still loses several million dollars, but I have no doubt they will find a correct way. Bien entendu Facebook a un sérieux problème, il n'est pas encore rentable, mais la société vaut plus d'un milliard de dollars, nul doute qu'ils trouveront un moyen, ce n'est qu'une question de temps. admin (2008-11-07 10:46:20) Hackers on Obama Barrack Obama's victory in the race to the White House is already used by hackers who instantly sent tens of new hoaxes offering to download a video of speeches by Barrack Obama or even a porn video with the new president of the U.S. But of course you'll have to download an update of your video player first, containing a worm/virus. McAfee, Symantec, Sophos and Websense recommand you to be careful when receiving such emails ! If internet search traffic does mean anything, Sarah Palin (the republican vice-president candidate and governor of Alaska) has become the center of all interests in a few weeks only. Just like Barack Obama - who now would be a muslim - rumours & hoaxes are invading the internet about Sarah Palin's hot pictures, pictures that actually exist but of course that are just photos of some porn actresses that can be easily modified with a software like Adobe Photoshop. But even such rumours may change the cards, the run to the US white house may be not over yet. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. Google PageRank, that uses a formula based on backlinks, is still the best indication of the importance of a web page. - How to get backlinks ? - How can I get more backlinks ? - How to improve my search engine rankings ? - How to increase my PageRank ? - How to monetize a website ? - How to make money online ? These questions are often linked. Building backlinks to your website is crucial in achieving and improving your search engine rankings. A backlink to your site is like a vote. Not all votes are equal, so backlinks, but everyone agree that attaining more Backlinks is a key integral part of your website and its rankings. As a guide, here are some ways & tips to increase the number of backlinks to your website : * Create viral linkbait. * Write a pillar (authority) article. * Create a numbers list (10 ways to blabla..) * Create controversy. * Find a scammer/shady website and make the world known about it. * Submit a press release about your new product or news. * Submit your site to free directories (only SEO friendly ones). * Submit articles to article directories. * Don’t be afraid to ask for links to webmasters. * Offer to buy a one way link from another relevant website. * Send unsolicited, yet awesome articles to other bloggers to reference. * Get on the Digg front page. * Exchange Stumbles on popular webmaster forums. * Submit to Del.icio.us * Answer a question on Yahoo Answers and reference your site. * Don’t be afraid to link out (don’t get too spammy) * Post your link in forums, and your forum signature. * Be the first to report breaking news (hard, but very effective). * Review a semi-popular tech gadget. * Review stuff on Amazon, and put your link in your profile * Create a Linked-In, Facebook, MySpace page, and put your link on it. * Join all applicable Chamber of Commerce’s’ in your area for free links * Post a bulletin in your Myspace account about your new site. * Throw a relevant link in a Craigslist ad. * Create your own SEO tool. * Look for older, higher PR sites with Guestbooks, and sign them. * Comment on Do-Follow blogs (meaning the link will be followed by a spider). * Don’t forget to link from some of your older, more established sites. * Apply to about.com for a topic that you can write about. * Launch an affiliate program for your site, ebook, or product. * Technorati tag all of your posts for good Technorati exposure. * Answer questions on Google Groups and link if necessary. * A good PPC campaign can draw exposure which could = links. * Submit to RSS feed sites. * Trade links with other relevant sites. * Check who links to your competitors, and get links from them. * Provide a “link to me” button or banner. * Sue Google and you’ll get plenty of publicity :) * Write about the hottest celebrities, and make it unique. * Create your own Wikipedia page (nofollow, but could lead to natural links) ---------- Les backlinks sont des liens à destination de votre site internet. * Créer votre page Wikipedia (nofollow, mais peut entrainer des liens naturels) moderator (2008-05-05 16:37:29) Latest email hoaxes, internet scams Anyone surfing on the internet has to fight Spam, Hoaxes & Scam, ie. : Bogus warnings (Facebook deleting inactive users...), Virus email hoaxes (Postcard Image Virus Hoax, Merry Christmas Virus Hoax, Bin-Laden and Olympic Torch Virus, MSN contact list or Mobile Phone virus hoax, Virtual Card for you Virus Hoax and so on...)
