Oscars 2008

Four Oscars for Joel and Ethan Coen's No Country for Old Men : Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Javier Bardem. Great achievement !

"Thank you to the Coens for being crazy enough to think I could do that and for putting one of the most horrible haircuts in history over my head" Bardem said in his acceptance speech. Bardem, a native of Spain, was the first European actor to win an acting honor Sunday.

France's Marion Cotillard wins Best Actress for La Vie en Rose, Britain's Daniel Day-Lewis wins Best Actor for There Will Be Blood and compatriot Tilda Swinton taking home Best Supporting Actress for Michael Clayton.

Other winners of this Oscars night were The Bourne Ultimatum (Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing), There Will Be Blood (Best Cinematography in addition to Day-Lewis' acting win). La Vie en Rose also wins the Best Makeup, Ratatouille wins the Best Animated Film, the Oscar for Best Original Song went to "Falling Slowly" from the Irish film Once.

To complete the list :

- Elizabeth (Costume Design)
- Taxi to the Dark Side (Documentary Feature)
- Freeheld (Documentary Short Subject)
- The Counterfeiters (Foreign-Language Film)
- Atonement (Original Score)
- Diablo Cody, Juno (Screenplay Original)
- Peter & the Wolf (Short Film Animated)
- Le Mozart des Pickpockets (Short Film Live Action)
- Robert Boyle (Honorary Oscar)

"The Baby goes to…Angelina Jolie. Oh my god, Angelina Jolie. I'm just stunned. It goes to Angelina Jolie. That's terrific" Stewart joked. "Obviously Angelina couldn't be with us tonight—it's tough to get 17 babysitters on Oscars night. I’ll accept this Baby on her behalf".

----------

House, the maverick

House (also known as House, M.D.), the famous TV series created by David Shore and featuring British actor Hugh Laurie - who received 2006 and 2007 Golden Globe Award and the 2007 Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama for his role as Dr. House - is back on french TV. After having censured the two first episodes, TF1 now broadcasts it in prime time (9 pm), that's even surprising, as the maverick medical genius still invites us to walk on very thin lines (euthanasia was the issue today). Fresh air at last, when french TV surely continues his way towards more real TV and Serial-killers-based TV series, when cinema is almost dead and burried... Gregory House, his vicodin and his team of young diagnosticians are back in the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (New Jersey), 4 seasons have been produced already but we're still at the very beginning of season 2 in France.

----------

Cinema, what's up ?

Beowulf, The mist, American Gangster, Hitman, Enchanted, Bee Movie, Heroes, This Christmas, Rescue Dawn, August Rush... Yes, cinema (this "old man dying" as said Alain Delon) is not completely dead yet. At least there will always be money to recycle in the name of art. Will the 3-D cinema give a last breath to the "7ème art " ? .. Any recommendation ?

----------
