Windows Vista problems

In its first months, it appeared that programs running on Windows Vista were slower than when running on Windows XP, also there was a lack of proper drivers and lots of application compatibility issues. Lots of hardware components, ie. by Nvidia, Creative or Mustek, had poor drivers or even no drivers at all for Windows Vista. The GeForce 8800 graphic cards were labeled as "Designed for Windows Vista", but the Nvidia drivers encountered many problems. Then Nvidia released lots of improved versions but some of their recent drivers (Forceware version 158.24) still had problems that were obvious in popular games, ie. World of Warcraft that had low frame rates, corrupted textures or simply crashed during play.

The other most encountered problem was, correction, is... that lots of programs do not work on Vista, because many software developers created applications that work only if the user has full administrative privileges, which is no more the case with Windows Vista and the introduction of UAC (User Access Control). One famouse example is the incompatibility with iTunes, at least until iTunes v7.2 or higher. Just use the Windows Vista "Safely Remove Hardware", and it will corrupt your iPod.

Many programs still have problems with Windows Vista, some install legacy drivers in order to function like security suites, CD/DVD burning utilities, VPN applications or virtualization solutions, some just can't be installed because it requires the installation of Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.1 or 2.0, even though Vista has indeed a newer version of .NET Framework.

Finally Windows Vista is undoubtly a good product but as it was a new operating system, it shouldn't have been recommended by many hardware and software manufacturers for their products. Now this is only a question of time, undoubtly they will fix all issues.

Windows vista and 7 are actually very good operating systems, i am a mac person ( i run the following web site www.macgamesandmore.com ) but my husband uses windows seven, and honestly i have more problems with my mac than he does with his pc. What i also like about PCs is that you can upgrade them yourself very easily, it's way more complicated on a Mac... and a lot more expensive too !
