Michael Jackson
Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He was most known as the "King of Pop", and probably the most commercially successful entertainers ever.
His solo career began in 1971, after having started as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1964. Thriller (1982) remains the best-selling album ever while 4 of his other albums are also among the best selling, Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995). He popularized several intricate dance moves, particularly the moonwalk. His videos for his songs "Billie Jean", "Beat It" and "Thriller" brought a new vision of musical videos as an art more than a promotional tool.
Among his other achievements in the Guinness World Records: 13 Grammy Awards, 17 number one singles (four as a member of the Jackson 5), estimated sales between 350 million and 750 million records worldwide.
Michael Jackson married twice, in 1994 and in 1996, and had three children, one born to a surrogate mother. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted of child molestation allegations. Finally, while preparing for the "This Is It" concert tour in 2009, Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50 after suffering from cardiac arrest due to propofol and lorazepam. Michael Jackson's death was ruled a homicide by the Los Angeles County coroner. His memorial service was seen in the whole world by up to one billion people.
