Kramnik - Kasparov

Here is a famous position from the Kramnik vs. Kasparov match in London, 2000 - 10th game. Also famous because it was one of the games incriminated by Bobby Fischer, saying Kasparov couldn't have lost the game this way. (something like Kasparov vs. Deep Blue rematch :))

Try it without engines... White (Kramnik) to move.

Re: Kramnik - Kasparov

I would say 1.Kh6+ Kh8 2.Qg8+ Txg8 3.Nf7++.
"ersticktes Matt" we say in German.

Correction

Sorry, should be 1.Nh6+

Thibault de Vassal    (2006-11-22 22:10:29)
Not the Lucena manoeuvre :)

Well tried ;)

Unfortunately, there could be Nxg8 instead of Rxg8

Josef Riha    (2006-11-22 22:11:07)
Oops

How painful! I have overseen the knight could take back on g8 :-((

Kramnik - Kasparov

I think white can trade up knight for rook with Nd8+, Kh8, Qe7! where Re8 doesn't work for Black. I've tried other Knight moves but Nd8 is the only one that trap Black's Rook. Please, confirm. Ty

Kramnik - Kasparov

Right ! .. That's the way, well done :)
