Not especially nice

ChessPosition (see diagram) This took me the whole day to get "finished" as such, and I still don't especially like it. Please don't feel too cheated by the solution (there may even be duplicate solutions, but I've not seen them) The problem is: Black to play and both sides to work together so that checkmate is not delivered by either side.

Especially headache

Huh :)

I may misunderstand the question...

...but can't the black queen just whizz around wherever it wants to while the white king just moves back and forth? e.g. 1...Qa1 2.Kb7 Qb1 3.Kb8 Qc1 4.Kb7 Qd1 etc.

rook on a8

with the rook on a8, your second move, Kb7, is checkmate.

?

IMO first moves must be 1.-- Qc5 2.bxc5.
