Animation World and Voice-Overs (2015-05-20)
Personally, I love cartoons and animations. I find them relaxing. Often, they are funny. Many times, the characters are cute and cuddly and much warmer than some ugly-looking dude on the screen.
Just think of some of the major, blockbuster animated films and cartoons in our recent past. Cinderella, Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, One Hundred and One Dalmatians.
Then step back and imagine these were silent movies. If you take out the contribution of stars such as Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Robin Williams, Angelina Jolie, Eddie Murphy and dozens of others, you would be left with silent movies that did not make much sense.
I would argue that reason we enjoyed such movies is that directors hired voice-over talents such as the stars I just mentioned to provide the much needed services. That voice-over was needed in those films is beyond question.
The important thing is how can a film producer or documentary maker access such talents.
It is a fact that overwhelming majority of such producers and directors are not able to hire talents like Hayek, Banderas, and Jolie. These stars are too busy to accept every offer they get, even if the producers and directors had vast budgets to pay them.
That is why there has been a substantial growth of companies from whom directors and producers can hire German voice over or French voice overs for anything from radio and television documentaries to shots in a movie that require foreign languages.
The art of providing voice-over is not an easy one. People go through years of schooling to learn how to do proper voice-over. The way you do voice-over for a history documentary is not the same as offering your talents for a cartoon or animated film.
