Self-Regulation Key to Success of Vaping Mods (2015-03-28)
If you are old enough to remember 1980s and 1990s, then you would understand why several major producers of vapor mods and other vaping supplies sold online are concerned about occasional reports that could damage their revenues.
Decades ago, the nicotine industry was hauled before Congress and regulatory industry bodies to accuse them that they are turning a blind eye to millions of Americans getting sick.
Today, with the sale of vapor supplies in USA showing unprecedented growth, the last thing the industry as a whole needs are such renewed accusations. If the vaping industry allows the bad ol’ days to return, it could mean double jeopardy for two reasons.
First, it could mean the end –or at least severe cuts to – a promising business model. The sale of vapor supplies online has exceeded that of e-cigarettes by 50 percent. Sales of vaping mods and associated products are now in the billions, not just in the United States but many other countries across the world.
Second, many of the companies deeply involved in the production and sale of vapor supplies in USA are the same companies that were involved in the tobacco industry debates decades ago. They can hardly be involved in another round of accusations that they are putting the lives of millions of Americans at risk.
That is why they are doing the right thing now. Several of these companies have voluntarily and preemptively got together to ensure that some companies –mostly outside the United States—that are manufacturing faulty products are either regulated or shut down.
The vaping invention gave hope and options to millions of Americans who were trying to either “kick the habit” or become more conformed to new social habits. The vaping industry should make sure it would not let them down.
