Why you should have a Japanese maple in your   (2013-10-01)

The view of trees with red leaves in the beginning of autumn season is a delightful picture. It gives warmth to your eyes in that season and makes the surroundings look a must one for any lens. These are Japanese Maples that adds up to the beauty and makes you closer to natural beauty. It provides a soft presence in a small front yard or attracts the attention with wine-dark foliage against a backdrop of summer greens.

One of the chief attractions of Japanese maples is their vivid fall color. Many of these have colorful leaves throughout the season and sometimes there are leaves that change colors, from spring through autumn. Another handy attribute is that, though full sun is best, most of them can tolerate some shade though not deep shade, but the kind of restricted sunlight that finds its way between buildings and trees into city gardens. Some cultivars are as tall as the forest kinds and others are tidy little mounded shrubs. They can be upright, vase-shaped, or can have horizontal or cascading branches. Some have a deep red tint to their leaves while others have foliage that is bright green, creamy white, yellow, pink, or orange. Nearly all of them look spectacular in fall season.

Japanese maples have leaves with approximately five to seven pointed lobes. In some of the species these lobes are more slender, sometimes with edged teeth, giving the foliage a lacy effect thus giving them the name lace leaf maples, finer leave and thread leaf maples. Usually, those plants have a mounted or cascading form. A Japanese maple may be the high point of your garden, but be sure to carefully choose them and plant it at the right place. Don’t plant them anywhere near the boundaries of your garden area because it will be susceptible to heavy traffic and frequent damage, thus making pruning a necessity for them and that too frequently. This is required if you are going for the huge Japanese maples but, with the wide range of Japanese maples you could also go for the smaller ones.

Japanese Maples can technically bear any soil from well drained to heavy clay soil, loose sands and all the range falling in between except for the salt content in it. Soil with high salt level is not best suited for them and thus the soil would require some work on it. In the initial years they would require some amount of watering in the early years which will be a rare scenario when they will be fully grown.

Altogether Japanese Maples irrespective of their size, color or type makes it an absolute favorite for your garden area.
