Server changes (october 23, 2008)
FICGS will have a new (much faster) server tomorrow !
It won't be possible to connect to the old server during a few hours, then it will depend to your access provider to update more or less quickly the domain names server, it generally takes from a few hours to one week.
As a consequence, I'll add 7 days to all clocks tomorrow (friday, at most saturday).
See you soon on the new FICGS server ! ;)

change as good as a holiday
Are you able to provide the new link now, so we can change our information and then just wait for the site to come up?
Normajean Yates (2008-10-24 00:46:29)
maybe put in the IP of new server?
maybe thibault can post the IP of the new server [those 4 numbers] so that one can bypass DNS - or is it one of those new kinds of indirections I dont understand? Nowadays on some addresses I 'ping' to get the IP but trying to reach the site via the IP doesnt not work [only for very few adresses.. generally on free-webhosting sites..]
Thibault de Vassal (2008-10-24 00:53:32)
The website address won't change : www.ficgs.com , no need to change anything to your favorites, but I'm not completely sure of what can happen if someone connects through the ip address so it won't be possible to connect this way, sorry :/
Please just check the login page (that will display a message tomorrow) regularly, when it's normal again, it means that you reach the new server.
Normajean Yates (2008-10-24 05:17:31)
oh - ok thanks!
thibault, even now http://18.104.22.168 gives "serveur OVH" - while of course I am connecting successfully through http://www.ficgs.com -
These technologies change so fast :-/
Thibault de Vassal (2008-10-24 10:05:39)
The server change should occur at 7 pm. today.

FICGS is back !
FICGS is back, on a really better & faster server, thanks all for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks to Thibault! :)

With the adding of seven days, I am now showing that in some games I have more than 59 days to make my next move. Is this intentional?
Rodolfo d Ettorre (2008-10-27 12:25:59)
Hi Thibault, your site is probably the best chess postal site ever.
Une question, after a few years, when you grow older, do you have any grand children to whom to pass this legacy?
Don Groves (2008-10-28 04:58:16)
I think Thibault needs to have children first, Rodolfo ;-)
Garvin Gray (2008-10-28 06:52:12)
Don, I think it is highly unlikely that Thibault will be HAVING children.
Don Groves (2008-10-28 19:53:03)
I stand corrected -- Thibault will need to "father" children first ;-)
Thibault de Vassal (2008-10-30 12:32:47)
Hi Garvin, yes this is a small "display" bug that will disappear by itself, not a clock problem.
To Don, Normajean and Rodolfo: don't worry I already thought about that (well, about FICGS at least) :-)
