Once a matriarch of the serpent cults that thrived in the ruins of Sarn, Kabala's lust for immortality twisted her into something far beyond human. Now, she slumbers beneath the poisoned earth, her breath a miasma that kills crops and corrodes steel. When players enter her lair, they find not a temple, but a digestive system of stone and rot.
Long before her transformation, Kabala served as high priestess to a forgotten serpent god. She preached the doctrine of renewal through shedding believing that flesh, like a serpent's skin, must be cast off to attain eternity. Obsessed with transcending death, she began performing rituals of venom transfusion, injecting herself with the extracted toxins of jungle vipers. Each ritual left her stronger but less human, her skin shedding scales instead of blood.
When her disciples realized the horror she had become, they tried to destroy her temple. Kabala retaliated by unleashing a toxin cloud that consumed every living thing for miles. The survivors called the region the Venom Pit, where even the rain burns.
Visually, the Venom Pit marks a major tonal shift in Path of Exile 2's campaign. The area combines bioluminescent fungi, pulsing egg sacs, and bubbling pools of acid that shape the level's traversal challenges. Players must navigate narrow ledges above rivers of venom, using new mobility skills to leap across crumbling rock. Each section oozes life; even the walls seem to breathe, exhaling toxic fumes that distort visibility.
Enemies in this area are all variations of Kabala's spawn Constrictor Hatchlings, Venom Idols, and Shed Skins that regenerate if not burned with elemental damage. The deeper one goes, the thicker the air becomes, introducing a stacking poison debuff that forces players to seek temporary refuge in rare "clean zones." These sanctuaries, lined with crystallized antivenom, provide a momentary respite before the suffocating corruption resumes.
