Runelite HD creator "117" posted to OSRS gold Reddit Tuesday with a message he had received from Jagex and was later confirmed by Jagex in the company's own blog post. Runelite HD operates as a plugin which will give an important visual overhaul the core game Runescape, as can be seen by 117's Twitter. Moderator 117 also said that they've spent about two thousand hours over the course of two years developing Runelite HD.
"Yesterday we approached the creators of well-known HD projects and asked them to stop development of their games, as this is a project that we are currently investigating directly," Jagex stated. Jagex wrote to 117 that the company's work on the creation of an HD edition of Old School Runescape was "still quite early in its exploration stages" but "very advanced."
"Naturally this implies the fan-led initiative that will attempt to alter the way Old School RuneScape looks is not in line with our own ideas," Jagex wrote to 117. "We believe it's vital that there is consistency with regards to the way Old School looks, and so we want to be sure that our official changes will be the only ones to be made available.
I hope the news of Jagex together with Old School team are tackling this endeavor with a seriousness is something that you are excited about even though it might mean that we must insist that you close down your personal website."
117 claimed that they would offer Jagex their side of the bargain which was to remove their project after Jagex had released their own version, and also granting Jagex "collaborative influence" over the Runelite HD's visual design.
"They did not want to be open about it," 117 said. "I am deeply disappointed and irritated with Jagex and I am extremely disappointed that, after this lengthy journey, I'm not able to show you this work. The mod seems to violate Jagex's rules for third-party clients, however the Runescape developer has said it will be amending the guidelines this week, to include references to projects affecting the appearance and gameplay.
Original Runelite creator Adam1210 shared his views on Reddit commenting that allowing Runelite HD to continue would be a net benefit in the future for updates to buy RS gold be made by Jagex.
