The Steelers obviously had a tough time playing off the receivers by defending the entire field and forcing Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith to dump the ball short towards tight-end Travis Kelce. Timmons was all the way to the opposite side of the formation when he was in coverage but he was hauled in and made an uninvolved tackle in the open field for an advantage of two yards. The play could have appeared as an ordinary play, but it was highly unlikely that Kelce would achieve enough yards to make the first down anyway. If you truly look at the game, you'll need to be amazed by how fast Timmons was and be able to gather himself and then make a certain tackle. This isn't routine or simple.
As far as I can discern, one of these naivete threw the flag because he thought Gay was mocking a Chiefs player when there wasn't one in the vicinity. And all because he stood there with his arms crossed. Dassit. They all refused to glance towards the Jumbotron to discover just how absurd of a call they were planning to make.
The Steelers had fought their a$$ off to make the Chiefs to punt, however due to an impervious and uncoherent rule that allows referees decide to call things they did not observe, and one that does not permit reviewing to keep refs up to date in their decision-making, the Steelers defense was forced to move back onto the field, while the Chiefs continued the drive. They were allowed to hold the Chiefs to one field goal, but what if that wasn't the case? What is the possibility that the Chiefs had marched down the field following that naive at-home taunting penalty and scored a touchdown that gave them the confidence they needed to fight back and win the game?
The league would have a lot on its plate if that had been the case. A potential division winner knocked off the finals because of a taunting penalty on one player who did not taunt anybody. I could read the headlines.
